Kohl's Cares and Dr Seuss

Watching my daughter struggle to read was a challenge. It's like she understood the sounds of the alphabet, but didn't always understand how letters worked together. What made it even more difficult was the way she seemed to hate reading. It really did my heart good this year when somehow she developed a determination to read and has even taken it on herself to keep a journal.

Reading matters to me so much because I know that is the basic foundation for being able to get anywhere and accomplish anything in life. Kohl's has found a way to combine encouraging kids to read in a way that is enjoyable to them, while at the same time contributing to kids health and education. This is through the Kohl's Cares program.

Through this program, consumers can purchase very good quality hardback books and stuffed animals that correspond with these books for only $5 dollars each. 100% of the net profits are donated to ensure the well being and education of children in communities around the country. Since 2000, over $208 million has been raised nationwide. These funds are also used to better the environment and also support the health of women residing in Wisconsin. It's as simple as making a purchase of something you and your children can enjoy together.

This spring, Kohl's is featuring Dr. Seuss books and stuffed animals. There are several to choose from which include The Cat in the Hat with the corresponding Cat in the Hat plush pictured above, Dr. Seuss's ABC along with Aunt Annie's Alligator, Horton Hears a Who along with Horton the Elephant among others. Each book and plush is sold separately. Look for these in stores as well as online.
